The Prince William effect bringing visitors to Wales

In a poll of overseas visitors surveyed about what they’d most like to see in the UK, the Royal Family seem to have created a rather surprising result.

VisitBritain who created the poll, asked more than 10,000 potential visitors particularly from Europe and Russia where they’d like to visit if they could come to the UK. They were surprised that despite London and the royal family being generally a popular combination, it was the 700 year old castles of North Wales which were voted more popular than Buckingham Palace.

The castles do have a royal connection having been built for Edward I in his so called “iron ring” of fortresses, but today it has been suggested the Prince William and Kate Middleton effect could be bringing a significant tourism boost to the north of Wales. The prince is currently stationed at the RAF base on Anglesey where both the prince and Kate are currently living.

Whether this effect will extend across the rest of Wales is yet to be seen, but considering Wales normally only receives a small percentage of the overseas visitors, this could bring a significant boost to the UK tourism economy.
