Bed testing for 2012 Olympics – such a tough job

Everything for the London 2012 Olympics has to be checked and this includes the really tough jobs – like bouncing on the beds.

According to former gold winning triple jumper Jonathan Edwards, the The London Organising Committee “Athletes Committee” have to consider everything in the athletes village from checking transport routes to lift waiting times, right down to the really crucial things like making sure the beds are comfortable.

At a recent meeting, three of the committee members has the really hard job of sitting and bouncing on the beds….just to make absolutely sure that even the biggest athletes would be able to crash out in comfort.

A whole series of beds had to be tested as it’s crucial the athletes find the perfect level of hardness and softness, especially as obviously you don’t want to cause any back problems at possibly the most important couple of weeks of their lives.

Once the beds are chosen, the Logistics team have to buy 17,600 beds and mattresses which in itself is no mean-feat. One does wonder exactly what will happen to these beds after the games?
