The 3 best places to watch football in England

For football fans who fancy a day trip but want value for money, where are the best three grounds to watch the game?

This is always a complicated one to work out, but if you take value for money to mean price of ticket vs the number of goals per year, then avoid the Premiership and head lower down the football leagues.

Why avoid the Premiership? If you consider the average ticket per game at say Manchester United’s ground could be £40 and the average number of goals is likely to be 3, then that works out at £13 a goal which is pretty expensive…and that’s before you buy the burgers.

So where do we go? These are the top 3 clubs as calculated by the Daily Mail for true value for money.

1. London Road (Peterborough United) – tickets £20 (£3.89 per goal)
2. Edgeley Park (Stockport County) – tickets £16 (£4.13 per goal)
3. B2net Stadium (Chesterfield) – tickets £17 (£4.18 per goal)

The top club was calculated as Peterborough United playing at home generated 77 goals (both sides) this season in just 15 games which means with a ticket of £20 that’s a mere £3.89 per goal.

According to Peterborough United’s director of football – Barry Fry – they play a “very open attacking game”, and considering the last two scores for the club were 5-3 and 4-4 it seems this does pay off.

Worst clubs to visit: Of course not every lower-league club is ideal. The worst football league club to watch was apparently Hull City who averaged a whopping £15 per goal, although we assume the burgers are a bit cheaper than Man Utd.

If football is all about entertainment then forget the player getting paid £50,000 a week and head for the smaller clubs who really would appreciate your support and where you’ll see proper football being played.

Sidenote: Not all games whatever league go completely to plan, such as this one on the Yahoo site with a handball that even Maradona would have been proud of!
