Coming soon – the 170 foot tall holiday cottage

The 170 foot tall Hadlow Tower is being converted from at-risk folly to one of the most unique holiday cottages in the country.

Situated close to the town of Royal Leamington Spa, the 170′ structure is part of Hadlow Castle and was built as a folly (building with no real purpose) by the 19th-century owners.

For over 20 years, local residents have been fighting to save the folly which was given Grade 1 listing and marked as one of the 100 most endangered sites in the world in 1998.

Now thanks to the Vivat Trust spending around £4 million and another £2 million from the Lottery Heritage Fund, this sky-scraper of it’s day will once again welcome visitors to marvel at the views from the top of a magnificent piece of Gothic style architecture.

The closest anyone could previously get to this kind of holiday experience was in the various lighthouses which have been converted into holiday accommodation, but a landlocked tower of this nature promises something quite unique in terms of style and views. More than likely, it should be a little warmer looking out of the top windows too.

Exactly how much the trust will be charging for stays in this tower is as yet undecided, but one would assume uniqueness and trying to claw back a mere £4 million could push the price quite high. The Vivit Trust do have a good track record of converting derelect buildings into short stay holiday cottages, so they should be able to strike a balance.
