How about creative art to brighten the London Underground?

There’s an article in the Evening Standard about art appearing on the Paris Metro and this got me thinking – would art on the London Tube make it a little more friendly?

The most interesting thing seems to be the adverts down the sides of the tunnels, and in all honesty when you’ve read about the £9.99 Broadband for 3 months from TalkTalk on every station for a week, even that loses interest.

So how about some art works on the London Underground, even if they were on the station side of the platform, in the ticket halls and all those places which aren’t used for adverts?

I don’t mean hanging copies of Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers, but art that’s designed especially for the tunnels and stations. A good example is this one from the Paris Metro:

Using up and coming artists would reduce expense and give really talented artists a chance to shine. With all the upgrades going on and disruption that seems to be a good time to suggest it.

Anyway, if Paris can do it, we can do it one better. :)
