Most TV chefs seem to open a restaurant or eight, but the majority also play it safe with a hotel restaurant – not James Martin.
Monsieur Martin, a-la Saturday Kitchen fame, has arrived a little late on the celebrity restaurant scene but rather than taking the easy route by placing a restaurant in some fancy hotel or posh bit of London he’s opened his first venture in a Leeds based Casino of all places.
The thousands of devotees of James (who I’m told has rather a following amongst the ladies of Britain) need not worry – this isn’t your usual chip butty or scampi dishes being produced by a chef who normally turns out relatively high end food.
He is following some traditions such as creating dishes with strange exotic names served by well dressed waiting staff, and of course accompanied by various wines.
One of the problems or perhaps one of the advantages of this restaurant is because it is based inside a casino you have to be 18 to enter so no more screaming kids running around….this is sounding promising!
Of course being a new restaurant created by a chef who’s never run one before there are some gambles you need to take such as whether the food will live up to the hype. It hasn’t been open very long, but the reviews so far don’t give you great odds of winning big there and the Leeds Restaurant review by the Guardian makes it sound more like a Little Chef than a fancy restaurant!
One thing which does improve the chances for the rather long titled “The Leeds Kitchen by James Martin” is the price with Sunday lunch taking just £15.50 for two courses from your wallet, which is probably significantly less than the slot machines next door.
If you fancy testing out your luck, The Leeds Kitchen by James Martin can be found in the Alea Casino on the riverside Clarence Dock in Leeds.

Your information seems to be very wrong – James ran the Hotel du Vin for several years and has worked at many others during his career and on the Ocean Village ships.
