One of the biggest problems with visiting any event or festival such as the London Olympics is often the accommodation costs, but a new web site might have a rather curious way to solve this.
Campinmygarden.com is essentially couch surfing for those who want to pitch a tent for an event anywhere in Britain, but either can’t find any suitable sites or simply can’t afford the prices many charge around popular events.
The idea is simple – people advertise their gardens or presumably paved areas as available for tents, and prospective event goers pay around £10 per night to pitch up in their garden.
In theory this has several advantages over traditional campsites including generally lower costs, more private facilities and the pitching site might be much closer to the event you’re attending than general campsites.
Each campsite is only available for 28 days a year to avoid planning regulation problems and facilities of course vary drastically, just like most traditional campsites, but if you fancy an outdoor version of couch surfing then this might be worth a shot. Alternatively, if you have a garden and want to earn some extra cash, this could also be quite a good way.
The site launched in April so there’s a limited number of campsites around, but if it takes off, we predict London will have a lot of campsites and campers trying to beat the rising Olympic hotel prices.

Disclaimer: We have nothing to do with this web site, was just found via a newspaper article recently.
If camping in someone’s garden isn’t your thing, then you could try one of the 1000s of UK campsites and holiday parks available, many including running water etc.
Tips hat to the Guardian for being the first to reveal this site.
