82 year old Denis Clayton from Cheshire has attended every Olympic Games since 1960 including hitching a ride on the Siberian Express & a freighter to Tokyo, but has failed to get tickets for his home Olympics.
The Sunday Mirror originally ran the story about the 82 year old who travelled by campervan to the 1960 Olympics, hitched a ride on a container ship and the Siberian Express across the frozen wastelands of Soviet Russia to reach his second Olympic Games in Tokyo 1964 and even stayed with an Inca tribe for week in Mexico 1968 while attending their Olympics.
However, along with the millions who applied for tickets for his home Olympic Games in London, 2012, he was unsuccessful on both the first and second rounds.
His only chance now is the free for all ticket exchange planned for early next year, or for one of the corporate sponsors, who in some cases have received around half of the event tickets, to offer him the chance to attend what even Mr Clayton admits may be his last Olympic Games.
He was quoted as saying “In the old days you could turn up a couple of weeks before and get tickets. Now, when the Games are down the road, I can’t get a seat for a single event.”
