A guide to treehouse self-catering in Britain 2011

Treehouse self-catering seems to be the new idea for 2011, so we’ve compiled a rundown of all the ones we know about in Britain.

The humble treehouse has come a long way from the days of some old shack which somehow defied the laws of physics and managed to hold you and 6 of your friends for secret meets all Summer holidays.

So now that treehouse accommodation has become in-vouge, here’s a quick run down of the best treehouse self-catering in Britain, including the first three which we’ve reported on earlier in the year.

The Tree House at Castle Cottage has to be my personal favourite when we discovered it earlier this year. Built around and almost becoming one with the tree, this is what we would all have built as kids….if we’d had our dad’s credit card and free reign of the local Wicks DIY store. Possibly the ultimate in forest living, especially when you look at the surrounding pond and tree location. (See picture above for interior).

Center Parcs treehouses in Sherwood Forest are new for 2011 and offer all the facilities of Center Parcs, but with the feeling that Friar Tuck might come crashing through the door any minute….especially if you’re cooking breakfast.

The Treehouse in Taunton has established itself in the luxury treehouse accommodation market with very clean interiors and all mod-cons. The treehouse even includes it’s own whirlpool sauna.

Forest Holiday Cabins in the Forest of Dean have taken a slightly different approach and are offering log cabins with a treehouse extension. The cabin has four main bedrooms, with another en-suite bedroom in the treehouse, all set deep in the Gloucestershire forest and blending in quite well going by the photographs.

Kinlochlaich House treehouse have taken a similar approach to the Tree House at Castle Cottage, foresaking the straight edges for natural wood shapes and a tree in the centre of the structure, but there are plenty of comforts such as a proper bed and bathroom with underfloor heating.

Conclusion: No doubt more treehouse self-catering will appear in the next 12 months, so check back for updates.

If treehouse self-catering isn’t quite your thing, there are plenty of ground based alternatives including Hoseasons Holidays.
