Luxury treehouse self-catering in Somerset

Treehouse’s in the past year or two have gone from rickety things we built as kids, to being used for luxury accommodation as people get a little closer to nature.

A couple of months back we reported on how Centre Parcs were beginning to offer their version of treehouse accommodation in the depths of Sherwood Forest, so you could play out your own version of Robin Hood and Maid Marion.

The Treehouse in Taunton is actually located in the village of Halse a little north of Taunton in Somerset.

This treehouse is a completely custom built self-catering accommodation which could be described as akin to a log cabin on stilts, but with a modern airy feel about the interior. There are no gas camping stoves or hay-matresses here, just an all mod-cons kitchen and very comfy looking bed set around an open plan living area.

For those a little unsure of being high up, the house is actually pretty close to the ground with at most 10 steps to terra-firma. It is quite obvious a lot of thought went into this property and the only real critisism I have is the interior looks a little too cream and perhaps not quite enough wood feel about it.

The gallery on the Treehouse web site gives the best impression of what you get. Looking at the availability, it seems the accommodation is already very booked up for 2011.

We are near neighbours of the family who own and run the Treehouse at Westhayes. You have the name of the village wrong in your information – the name of the village it’s in is Halse, the name of the property where the treehouse is located is Westhayes. I think you should make this clear as your info is misleading.

Wow – that tree looks really magical. Any info on who built it?
