For the first time ever, the Olympic Hockey Pitch for the London Olympics will be blue with pink edging rather than the traditional green colour (as shown here).
The very striking colour scheme has been approved and will be installed when the venue is ready later this year. According to the London games organisers, the idea is to give better contrast of the white ball for spectators, players and officials.
We’re also wondering, although it hasn’t been official mentioned, if this is in part for the television broadcasters, many of whom will be broadcasting the games in high definition.

Two training pitches for the Olympic hockey at Old Loughtonians Hockey Club in Essex will also be painted the same striking colours to make it easier for teams to adjust.
